Small-town roots, lake-country growth
Montgomery is one of the oldest towns in Texas. It was chartered in 1837, served as the first county seat of Montgomery County, and is recognized as the birthplace of the Texas Lone Star Flag, designed by Montgomery resident Dr. Charles B. Stewart. Today the Historic Downtown District and Fernland Historical Park draw visitors to the junction of Texas 105 and FM 149, about 15 miles west of Conroe.
